OUR STORY

Our company was founded as Static Wave Studios of Canada Inc. on November 29th, 2010 by Philip Laessoe and Dan LaPierre. Dan was very active in promoting his music lessons online and quickly grew a high student count. He was also seeking band members to form the best cover/party band in the city with co-partner Donna Benedicto, and to build a shared teaching, recording and rehearsal studio. His Danish co-worker at Long & McQuade in Surrey, Philip Laessoe, had a similar vision. So the two decided to team up and bring in artists they worked with, live and studio musicians who also taught music to help manifest those goals.

Around the same time, Philip had begun the process of immigrating to Canada and realized the safest way to land his Permanent Residence was setting up a business to expand his record of studying and working in Canada via a renewal of his work permit. The team only had a few months to grow the new business so the first initial application by the company for a labour market opinion exemption was not validated and Philip had to temporarily relocate back to Denmark for 6 months to prepare his return using a different approach. His temporary studio in Denmark, which was quickly set up with the help of his best friend and music partner Kris Trautner, gave him a chance to work with a couple of Danish studio artists while getting a taste of reconnecting back to his roots of playing live keyboards. The challenge with immigration sparked an increase in his creativity and developed in him a hyper-competitive mindset. Philip was mentally prepared for "immigration war" as he successfully returned to Canada to further his studies into Electronic Music Production while keeping his Canadian business active, now as a part-time live keyboardist. It was a time full of constant changes, worries, little sleep/long hours and seemingly never-ending obstacles also due to the financial crisis. However, the business, the studio(s) and the collaborative and helpful live and recording artists formed a protective professional shell around him. By 2012, he graduated from his third in a row audio / music production school and joined with Champagne Republic band mate and realtor, Marty Majerski, when Dan decided to leave the company. Dan moved to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to get married and further his career.

Philip Laessoe and Static Wave Studios did pre-production and demos for Champagne Republic, Emily Chambers, Anqi Sun, Detra, Kevin Rosmer, Phil Keys, Fernanda Maleski, Marlie Collins and other upcoming music artists. Many of the live bands of these artists were also directed or co-fronted by him, so his three pillars; Studio - Live Music - Lessons were once again the focal point of the business. Philip Laessoe became the President / CEO of the company when Marty Majerski and Champagne Republic disbanded as a result of Emily Chambers pursuing a solo music artist career (her first EP was actually co-written and pre-produced by Philip Laessoe). Philip then teamed up with Dennis Law from Noisyhouse Music Productions and moved Static Wave Studios to a big shared facility in Ironwood of southern Richmond, BC. Around the time of Covid, Static Wave Studios of Canada Inc. was rendered inactive, sold all assets and temporarily shut down all operations.

Instead, Philip Laessoe set up his personal SonicShape Studio in a new Vancouver-based project studio location where he could do online session work, lessons, keyboard sound design as well as basic artist development and music production. In 2021, as Covid was coming to an end, SonicShape expanded to a second location in Richmond, BC partnering up with Ming Lian and Nongmei Yuan from MMS (May's Music School). As the business grew, the former inactive Static Wave business entity, was ready to reincorporate and transform into "Soul Wave Studios Inc." in early 2023. The main difference was the integration of aspects of the (musical) soul journey based on teaching and promoting spiritual concepts as Philip's journey of immigrating to Canada, and learning to navigate a hyper-competitive music industry, had catalyzed his spiritual awakening.

Soul Wave's favourite saying is "Step Into Your Light". This refers to the individual musician, artist or student embracing and aligning with their true colours, shine, charisma and core talent. In our opinion, regardless of positive or negative life experiences, everyone is a beautiful soul with a unique aura. Our souls are eternal waves of consciousness and our natural state of being. An intelligent vibration that observes and experiences. We all have a mind - a processing unit that determines the good and the bad. Our emotional state fluctuates accordingly, and that is essential for us in our experience of duality. Too often, however, it becomes a limiting factor that can lower our natural expression due to fear and societal programming. Soul Wave Studios takes a genuine soul into perspective through the lens of art, music or spirituality.
